Best Whole Body Vibration Machine

Have you ever wondered what vibrational trainers are about and what they can do for you? I was curious enough that I wanted to check them out.

I found myself, at age 59, in a position where I had a physical disability which limited my access to getting the right kind of exercise I needed. For the first time in my life I found that I had was dealing with high blood pressure.  This has never been a problem for me before. But with the chronic illness that I have, overtime I’ve became less and less mobile. I had been experiencing falls and was concerned about spending time away from my home.

Blood Pressure

Up until this point, I had been physically active and I was particularly fond of power walking. I love to walk the neighbourhoods of my city. Walking is an exercise that has no special equipment, is easy to do, is enjoyable, and gets me out of the house. But I was finding that it was more and more difficult to do this.

I needed a way to continue to exercise my body to keep my heart healthy. IExcersize started to do research on the best whole body vibration machine. I had heard bits and pieces of information about them, and being the analytical person that I am, I did not want to venture into the purchase of one of these machines without knowing all the pertinent information that would apply. I had seen whole body vibration machines in operation on various television programs and also experienced them at trade shows. I looked into the cost and they varied according to the type of machine you wanted to buy.

For example, you can get a very low-level machine at a reduced cost but you have to remember as a consumer you get what you pay for. I found the lower and smaller models did not provide the stability I needed. I didn’t feel like I could stand on one of them safely.  My search took me in the direction of finding one that was more structurally stable. I came across the best whole body vibration machine DKN Xg 3.0 at a trade show. A woman was demonstrating various exercises you could do while on the machine and it was intriguing. I decided to give it a try.

For a person who has limited mobility, just standing on the device while it was vibrating, I could feel the power of the machine work through me. It is difficult to describe, but basically it is a strong vibration as indicated by the name of the product. When I tried this demonstration it was only for approximately 3 or 4 minutes, but it was enough time for me to get the idea of what to expect.

However, this was not enough for me to make the decision to purchase the item.

Vibration therapy began in 1857 by a Swedish doctor, Gustav Zander. He built 70 different exercise inventions, some of which were a type of Vibration Exercise machine. He started the popular Zander Institutes, an early form of today’s Health Clubs.

By 1895, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, (the developer of Corn Flakes) invented a Whole Body Vibration Machine. This was a unique chair design that shook violently and claimed to cure constipation, headaches and back pain. To stimulate the inner organs, he also developed a standing platform type of Vibration Machine.

AstronautIn 1960, the beginning Vibration Exercise Techniques began in Eastern Germany, with a technique called Rhythmic Neuromuscular Stimulation. One of Russia’s key sports scientists, Dr. Vladimir Nazarov, a member of the Soviet gymnastics team who occupied a chair for sports biomechanics at the State College in Minsk, first introduced this technology to competitive sports, ballet, and medicine in the former USSR.

Whole-body Vibration Exercise fitness is backed by many years of in-depth scientific research. Vibration Exercise was invented by the Soviet Space Program, and is now used widely for health and fitness. Thirty years ago, Russian scientists found that Astronauts experienced significant loss in bone density and muscle tissue, due to the lack of gravity, during extended amounts of time in space. Russian researchers experimented with Vibrating Exercise technology, and found that by using this equipment, they could not only stop the loss, but even further increase bone density and strengthen muscle tissue.

The Russians were able to set an all time record of more than 420 days in outer space using Whole Body Vibration Exercise technology. NASA astronauts, who were training on conventional fitness equipment, were forced to return after just 120 days, due to bone and muscle loss. Later after the fall of Russia, Vibrating Exercise technology was discovered by other countries. Today, NASA fully embraces the Whole Body Vibration Exercise technology with much success.

How & Why Vibro Plates Work

The Plate produces a vibration through which energy is transferred from the vibro platform to the body. By standing on the Vibro Plate you will notice how your body automatically adjusts to the vibrations. This mechanical stimulus produces a stretch reflex which, depending on the selected frequency, results in muscles vigorously contracting 30 to 50 times per second.

Exercise causes the body to tire; rest allows the body to recover. By repeating this process, the body adjusts to the level of effort, resulting in an increase in physical performance. This phenomenon, called super-compensation, similarly occurs when training on the Vibro Plate. However, compared with traditional training methods, greater results are achieved and hormonal production is increased in much less time.

Each set is performed no longer than 30, 45, or 60 seconds in length, and training sessions on the Vibro Plates need to be performed no more than 3 to 4 times per week with each session lasting about 10 minutes of actual time on the Vibro Plate.

Advanced Vibration Technology Increases:

  • the production of regenerative and repair hormones
  • improves blood circulation
  • strengthens bone tissue
  • improves lymph drainage
  • increases basal metabolic rate

All this results in:

  • more strength
  • more speed
  • more stamina
  • rapid recovery of muscles and tissue
  • increased flexibility
  • mobility and coordination
  • improved collagen production, and fat reduction

Whole Body Vibration (WBV) are touted to help build muscle, which is a benefit that I was looking for. But what I initially was looking for was a non prescription way to lower my blood pressure.

Study: High Blood Pressure

The US National Library of Medicine did a study on the Effect of Whole Body Vibration on Arterial stiffness.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is common in middle aged and older adults.  Increased arterial stiffness is a CVD risk factor. The arterial stiffness (hardening of the arteries) result in raised blood pressure.

They had men and women use a WBV for 3 months.  They found that there was a reduction in arterial stiffness, and concluded that the WBV could be used as a supplementary exercise.

Another study looked at people who had survived a stroke and had paralysed lower limbs.  Because of their limited mobility, all they could do was stand or squat on the WBV, and they received the benefit of lowered blood pressure.

Whole body vibration, conversely, has been demonstrated to reduce hardening of the arteries in study after study, among populations ranging from men in their mid-twenties to postmenopausal women. And in each study, the subjects’ blood pressure was lowered significantly.

H Blood Pressure

WBV “triggers 30 to 50 reflexive muscle contractions per second throughout the user’s body. As the body works to regain stability, multiple muscle fibers become engaged in any single movement, significantly amplifying the effectiveness of any movement performed on the plate. A body’s natural response to vibration and destabilization has been scientifically linked not only to lowered blood pressure, but also improved circulation, enhanced flexibility, pain reduction and balance. Research also shows whole body vibration stimulates the body’s natural production of the regenerative growth hormone that maintains tissue repair, muscle growth, energy and metabolism throughout life.”

The vibrations encourage blood flow back to the heart, which, over time helps to reduce blood pressure.

The fact that this machine is safe for me to use and helps with my blood pressure, was enough to convince me to purchase this machine.

Weight Loss

Oh the eternal quest to lose weight! Oy vey!  I have been chasing the weight loss rabbit for so many years I don’t even remember!

weight lossDoes WBV help you lose weight?

A article says that it will help a little with the initial calorie burn.  But more importantly, the potential benefits of the the WBV include increased muscle strength in women and older adults with degenerative knee arthritis increase balancing abilities in elderly women and improvements in bone mineral density that may decrease osteoporosis risk in postmenopausal women.

A stronger person will burn more calories through their daily activities.

The WBV, in addition to healthy eating habits and additional aerobic activity, will result in a reduction of body fat.

Other Benefits of the Whole Body Vibration Exercise System

  • Helps achieve a toned body
  • Building muscle density helps with Osteoporosis
  • Improved Balance, strength, flexibility and endurance
  • Increased energy levels
  • Better mental focus
  • Improved Sleep
  • Improved Blood Circulation
  • Bone growth is stimulated
  • Metabolism is enhanced
  • Reduced time for recovery of muscle injury

The Best Whole Body Vibration Machine: DKN XG 3.0 Machine

The DKN XG 3 is an amazing 6G strength  VERTICAL machine.  It has all steel construction, no plastic moving parts.

There are 4 pre-programed workouts available: Total Body, Upper Body,Programs Lower Body, and Abdominals.  There is also a Manual setting.  This allows you to create your own individualized workout.

You control the frequency of the vibration.  As you advance, you will increase the vibration.

You can also control the time, but the machine will default to a maximum of 10 minutes. This is for safety, but with experience, you will learn that the time can be repeated.

This machine is very sturdy. Because of my limited mobility, I needed a machine that I knew was not going to fall apart when I leaned on it in the process of ascending the base.

The base is large and will support the weight of more than one person. The size ot the base allows for a variety of exercises and positions.

Included in the package are exercise straps and a vibrations cushion (for seat work)

Vertical Vibration

It is important to note that the DKN offers high quality vertical vibration, which is different from oscillating movement.  The originator of WBV were the astronauts, and they used vertical vibration.

It is important to look at what you are getting when you purchase a WBV system.  If you buy based on cost alone, remember that you get what you pay for.

Comparable products in the market will run significantly higher in price.

The cost is comparable to a good tread mill.

DKN offers a payment plan for as little as $47/month

I was looking for a way to continue to get some form of exercise from the safety of my home, that would accommodate limited mobility. I have been using this machine for several years now, and have had great results.

It is important to note that WVB does not take the place of regular exercise.  But in my case, that type of exercise is not possible anymore.  I see the DKN as helping out with my physical body in a way that gives my cardiovascular system a challenge that improves my health in a way that otherwise would not be possible.  In effect, it provides an improvement in my life in an easy and safe manner.

It also extends my independance.

I highly recommend this machine to anyone who has mobility issues and would like to improve their health and physical well being.

  • I also recommend it for:
  • people who have difficulty leaving there home
  • postmenopausal women
  • people with arthritis
  • people with knee or hip joint issues

  1. Great product review, It has a lot of important information and it even goes into the history of the vibrating machines, and I like also the opportunity to earn income from this product..
You mention that this does not replace regular exercise, so if people can they should still be exercising?

  2. I didn’t realise that vibration therapy had so many benefits. Everyone should have a unit in their home.
I’ve become slightly immobile due to a back injury (bulging disc). Do you think these type of machines will be safe to use?

    1. Thank you for the comment. I have had a disc issue before and it can be very painful. I would think that at the lowest frequency you would get some benefit, but I am not a doctor. I would seek advice from my doctor, hopefully they know what WBV is!

  3. Hi Judith, very interesting review, I gotta say though when I saw that price, my jaw dropped just a little bit! But you are right when you say that you get what you pay for! This machine could be the lifesaver for those who are disabled due to injury and such, so I can see why it is so expensive, but even so, the low payment plan can give much ease of mind!

I really enjoyed the history that you put into this review, I never thought that the man who developed Kellogg’s Corn Flakes was also responsible for the revolution of this machine!

It is also very interesting to know that this product actually has an affiliate program, this affiliate program would be perfect for those who are interested in promoting equipment within the health and fitness niche!

    1. Thank you for the comment. Yes, the price can be intimidating, but it is in line with the good WBV machines available in the market. Iy is like a good treadmill that is not going to fall apart after a year. I have had my DKN XG 3 for 6 years, and it is in excellent condition.
